On Thursday 4th April 2025, Our team had the pleasure of joining the Skanska site team — for a rewarding day at Ashchurch View Care Home, located just across from the VSSP project. As part of our commitment to social value and giving back to the local community, we volunteered our time to help refurbish the residents’ garden furniture.
We arrived on site at 9:00am, unsure of what the day would bring. After a warm welcome from the care home staff, we were shown through to the rear garden — and were met with quite the sight! There were 10 double benches, 2 single benches, and 2 garden tables, all in need of a thorough sanding and a fresh coat of paint.
The look on the lads faces said it all — expecting just a handful of benches, he was visibly surprised (and slightly overwhelmed!) by the task ahead. But, without hesitation, we got stuck in.
What followed was a fantastic day of teamwork, conversation, and connection. Working side by side with the Skanska management team in a relaxed and informal setting gave us the opportunity to build stronger personal and professional relationships — and even discover a few shared interests along the way. It’s days like this that help foster deeper collaboration and understanding, which will no doubt benefit our working relationship on site in the months to come.
By the end of the day, we had transformed the garden furniture, giving the space a fresh new look. The care home staff were absolutely thrilled with the results, and the garden looked fantastic — ready just in time for their upcoming open day that weekend.
As a final gesture, CF Roberts donated two bird boxes, which were gratefully received and quickly found pride of place in the garden. It was wonderful to see how something so simple could bring such joy and make a real difference to the residents and staff. This was a brilliant example of how small actions can have a big impact — and a reminder of the value in taking time out to support the communities where we live and work. A big thank you to Skanska for joining us on the day, and to Ashchurch View Care Home for making us feel so welcome.
