Case study

Slough Crematorium

As main contractors, CFR led a major £3 million upgrade of Slough Crematorium, managing a full electrical and mechanical refurbishment on behalf of Slough Borough Council.

As Councillor Paul Sohal put it “the chapel had served Slough well over the years but was in desperate need of refurbishment and modernisation”.

The priority task was the replacement of the cremators and furnaces to make them more environmentally friendly. This commitment to sustainability required redesigning the building layout to fit in new mercury and dioxin abatement equipment.

Inside the Chapel we added a new mezzanine floor to increase capacity and, refurbished the outdoor shelters where mourners gather after services.

This work needed careful planning and sensitivity, knowing that the chapel is used in very difficult times. Beyond modernising the facility for the 21st Century, our client wanted to improve operations and logistics to make transitions between ceremonies smoother and more comfortable for everyone involved.
