Hartpury University & Hartpury College Graze 2 project is a new student dining and recreation hub, containing spaces for restaurants, learning and conference facilities. Opening in 2022, the aim for Hartpury was to create a multi-functional space for students to relax and learn in.
CF Roberts were brought on board by Barnwood Construction to design and install a hybrid and natural ventilation strategy to the ground floor. An unusual undertaking for a building like this, requiring a design that was capable of coping with the varying occupancy levels throughout the day.
The first floor had a Variable Air Volume system for the ventilation, supplying a Heat Pump VRF system capable of providing the heating and cooling for the entire building with further dedicated heat pumps supplying the hot water.
Keeping sustainability at its core the design also included a large fully electric commercial kitchen, moving away from the gas systems that were on site already. To offset the large electrical demand for the kitchen a roof sited solar panel system was put in place, helping to achieve the design within the limited space and electrical capacity available.
